Modular office workstation brings all the employees of a particular organization, together. They help break communication and hierarchy barriers by seating them all together on an open floor plan culture.

When it comes to office culture, there is always a hierarchy which is followed from entry level associate to the board of directors. Majority office cultures have been differentiating these individual levels of experience of employees with the use of furniture and where that particular employee holding a particular rank should be sitting. For example, an entry level associate would be given a desk and chair and would be seated with a bunch of other employees of the similar position or may be just one level higher. Whereas the bosses or the upper level management would get their own cabins and individual private spaces including storage cupboards and even other electronic devices. Separate furniture which would look more sophisticated than the rest of the office would be given to upper level management. However, with changing times, came the culture of one office one theme or equality among all the position holders, in order to break hierarchy barriers. Office furniture played a major role in this change. Let us see how.

Open Up the Space

Modular office workstations are used by majority of organizations and firms nowadays. What these workstations do is, they open up the office floor space and unify the whole area as one. Workstations are made with an open concept and can be in the form of single row desks all in one workstation unit or can be 3-4 cubicles or workstations clustered together as one unit. All these can be strategically placed on the open office floor, with no actually doors or windows and still each workstation can be used privately with partitions only as high as a sitting employee. This concept of an open floor plan for workstations helps keep all employees of various ranks within talking distance and still they get their privacy. A lot of upper level management who may or may not be communicating with the team they are coordinating still prefer to be seated with their team, hence breaking a ice wall between the boss and the subordinates.

Individual Space and Shared Space

You may think that management people when seated with their subordinated may get disturbed because of the constant communication between staff around them. However, modular workstations are so designed that one particular corner or say a section of the workstation can be customised for seating the team leader or the manager. He/she gets their own space which can be considered private enough and also they are still connected with their team. These workstations are so designed that partitions can be installed just for the desk, with either glass or metal panels or even wooded boards and hence create a private space for the team leader. These partitions can be alternatively used as white boards or pin boards and hence can be customized as per requirement.

Keep the Team in One Place

Modern office workstations can be used with different color schemes for different teams in one office. The workstations can be color coordinated and hence an entire team can have a particular color for their workstations. This way the entire team knows which all workstations they can use for their work. In this way on one office floor, multiple teams with different colors to their workstations can be placed, strategically sitting next to each other but still as a cluster of their own team. Any outsider coming to the work floor can be able to differentiate one team from another on the basis of their workstation colors. This not only breaks communication barriers between the management staff and the subordinates but also between different subordinates belonging to different teams.
